Mechanical (HVAC) Plan

The following items must be shown, detailed and/or noted on the “mechanical (HVAC) plan”:

HVAC ductwork layout, including sizing and location of all supply and return ducts.

HVAC equipment size and location.

HVAC equipment located in an attic (section M1305.1.3, I.R.C.).
· Attic passageway to HVAC (height, width and maximum length)
· HVAC service space
· Attic HVAC service illumination, switch, service outlet and means of disconnect, see “Electrical Plan.”

HVAC duct (minimum No. 26 gage sheet steel) penetration through garage/residence fire-separation (section R309.1.1, I.R.C.).

HVAC equipment elevated (minimum 18 inches) from garage floor (section M1307.3, I.R.C.).

HVAC equipment impact protection device when located in a garage (section M1307.3, I.R.C.).

Gas-fired HVAC equipment venting, including maximum horizontal offset (section G2427, I.R.C.).

“B-vent” termination distance to adjacent vertical walls and parapets, minimum 8 feet (section G2427.6.4, I.R.C.).

Gas-fired HVAC equipment “combustion, ventilation and dilution air” vent openings (section G2407, I.R.C.).

Clothes dryer exhaust duct size, termination and maximum dryer exhaust vent length (section M1502, I.R.C.).

***Please Note: If the maximum dryer exhaust vent length is exceeded, the dryer must be relocated or the dryer exhaust vent system must be engineered and approved, in advance, as an “alternative design” (section R104.11, I.R.C.).

Range hood exhaust duct (section M1503, I.R.C.).
