Litchfield Park Named Best City in Arizona
On December 12, 2013, Movoto, a national online real estate brokerage based in San Mateo, California, named Litchfield Park as the “Best City in Arizona.” Movoto is committed to helping uncover all the best places in each state in the country. Desirable factors such as: cost of living, crime rate, education, median household income, median home value, overall amenities and sunny and warm temperatures are the criteria used in developing the ranking. Movoto has been recognized for its unique approach to city-based research by major news organizations, including Forbes and CBS News.
We are in the process of developing a marketing strategy to promote Litchfield Park using this recognition. We believe that it could assist our economic development plan in attracting designation type businesses to our community and promoting our existing businesses and special events.
State of the City Meeting
On Saturday, January 18, 2014, a State of the City Meeting will be held at The Church at Litchfield Park in Souers Hall. The meeting begins promptly at 9:00am, with registration and refreshments commencing at 8:30am.
The purpose of the two-hour meeting is to summarize major events in 2013 and also identify upcoming events in 2014. Included in the meeting will be an overview of the Major General Plan Amendment process, which is anticipated to take place in 2014.
As in the past, our Finance Director will provide a fiscal update of revenues and expenditures. Members of Council also will have the opportunity to present a brief summary of current events and/or address agenda items. Additionally, the venue provides an opportunity for the public to bring issues of concern to the attention of City officials.
EPA Proposed Crane Plume Plan Open House and Public Meeting
On Wednesday, February 5, 2014, EPA will hold an open house and public meeting at Estrella Mountain Community College, Conference Center from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. The primary purpose of the open house and public meeting will be for the EPA to announce its desired cleanup remedy to be used at the former dry well source area, which is located on the former Unidynamics Phoenix Incorporated property on Litchfield Road.
Concerts at the Wigwam
Last month, I met with a promoter to discuss possible future concert events on the front lawn of the Wigwam. The promoter is well aware of Litchfield Park’s noise ordinances and the issues of past concerts held on the front lawn of the Wigwam. He expressed a strong interest in holding two or three smaller scale concerts a year, perhaps beginning as early as April, 2014, with much improved sound containment equipment and crowd control.
I believe that this could be a positive featured event for the Wigwam and Litchfield Park. If this concept becomes a reality, we will work with the promoter and the Wigwam to develop an event which will meet City Codes and provide a venue which will be successful for all parties.
