Plumbing (Including Gas Piping) Questions and Concerns
What plumbing work can I do that doesn't require a building permit?

Clearing of stoppages and/or repair of leaks in pipes, valves or fixtures, provided such repairs do not involve or require the replacement and/or the rearrangement of the valves, pipes or fixtures, section R105.2.1, I.R.C.

The code requires a minimum burial depth of 12 inches below grade for gas piping, is this depth allowed for listed, labeled and approved plastic gas piping?

No. The City has amended section G2415.12, I.R.C., requiring a minimum burial depth of 18 inches below grade, unless the piping is listed for a greater burial depth. In addition, plastic piping must be installed per manufacturer's specifications (for below grade gas piping), including an installed "tracer" line.

Can I use copper tubing for my gas piping installation?

No. The City has amended section G2414.5.2, I.R.C., by deleting this subsection in its entirety. Therefore, copper tubing is not an allowed gas piping material.

I'm adding an addition to my residence and because of the location of my existing gas meter, a section of the existing buried gas line will end up below the corner of the new concrete slab of my proposed addition. Is this okay?

No. Gas piping underground beneath buildings is prohibited, see section G2415.14, I.R.C. for the exception.

To encourage energy efficient "hot water on demand", some jurisidictions require an electrical receptacle outlet under each bathroom lavatory. Is this a requirement in Litchfield Park?

Yes. The City has amended the code to require a 125-volt, 15 ampere-rated GFCI receptacle outlet in an accessible location under each bathroom lavatory to allow for the operation of a point-of-service hot water re-circulating pump. Note: If a central hot water re-circulating pump is installed at the time of the "final inspection," the outlets will not be required.  See City amended section E3901.6, I.R.C.
