During a Special City Council meeting held April 7, 2021, the City Council took action to negotiate an Intergovernmental Agreement with the City of Avondale to provide police and public safety services within the City of Litchfield Park.
These services will begin July 1, 2021, pending approval of the IGA between the two cities. The current MCSO contract has been in place since 2012 and will continue through June 30, 2021.
Prior to the Council’s decision, the City sought quotes for cost of public safety services from MCSO, and the cities of Avondale and Goodyear. The City of Goodyear could not begin services until July 1, 2022.
The solar powered license plate reader cameras that are currently being installed throughout the City remain independent of any police service provider. Changing services from MCSO to the Avondale Police Department will not pose any obstacles. Citizens and residents will be notified of contact information regarding non-emergency numbers for the Avondale Police Department in the coming months. For any emergency, please dial 9-1-1.
